Chef Ruggero Gadaldi may be a new name to Mission hipsters and Marina swells, but for nearly 15 years, the Bergamo native has quietly regaled Russian Hill locals with his authentic regional Northern Italian at his original joint, Antica Trattoria. Well, not exactly quietly, as the jam-packed storefront staffed with boisterous waiters sounded every bit the trattoria it was. But news broke this week that Gadaldi is aiming to sell his lease (possibly to long-time restaurateurs Klaus and Albert Rainer of Downtown’s casual Café Metropol) in order to focus on his newest molto hot ventures – Beretta, Delarosa, and his other Russian Hill outpost, the seafood-centric Pesce. In the meantime, diners can still get reservations for their last licks during the time it takes for the escrow to close (approximately two–four months) by calling the restaurant directly at 415-928-5797.
