There are several such options in San Francisco. You can go for a simple stroll in the various parks that it has or along the many streets that have some historical connection to them or you could visit some interesting exhibits in the museums, almost all of which have free days. But even just walking along most parts in San Francisco could be an unparalleled experience for most of us.

The Botanical Gardens are a wonderful place to begin with. There are at least a hundred different plant species to check out in this area and the redwoods here have international acclaim for tourists. You could find some of the oldest trees of America here just when walking around the place.

Another interesting place that’s available for free is the Cable Car Museum. It is a great place to get acquainted with this mode of transport, and it even has some antique cable cars on display.

If you are a music buff, you could find a great free experience in the Golden Gate Park. Here, a band plays free from April to October on every Sunday. This is the Golden Gate Park Band and it is almost a tradition with the city to listen to this band playing.

For tourists that are looking for a tour, they could check up the free tours that City Guides has to offer. There are more than thirty options here and they provide free tours lasting from one and a half to two hours, each with a different theme. It is quite an interesting way to have your family enjoy for free in this abundant city.

Speaking of families, another place that you could take them to is the Farmer’s Market which is set up every Tuesday and Saturday around the Ferry Building. A real fun place to be, and to get some delectable free samples too!

Most people would tell you that no trip to San Francisco can be complete without going over the Golden Gate Bridge, and they would not be wrong. This bridge built in 1937, has a total span of over 4.2 kilometers. You can drive over the bridge or simply cycle over it and you will see why they say that San Francisco is one of the most spectacular places to visit in this part of the world!

And yes, just standing away from the bridge at its northeast or southeast ends shows you the bridge in its resplendent glory and you could photograph it in its entirety.

Visit the Golden Gate Park also. You could spend a whole day admiring the various things this park has to offer. Check out the Japanese Tea Garden in particular and you will be bowled over by its real Asian charm and the architectural excellence of this region. Also visit San Francisco’s Chinatown which is the oldest Chinatown in North America. It is also the largest Chinese community outside of Asia.

Everyone has heard of the Alcatraz. You must take time out to visit it too. It is not a prison anymore, but you can smell the history of the place. Take suitable pauses to admire the natural beauty of the Alcatraz, which is picturesque in every way!

Another site that is a hit with the tourists is the Grace Cathedral. This building, dating back to 1906, is a monument of devotion for St. Francis d’Assisi, the patron saint of the city. Right from the bas reliefs that adorn the gates of the cathedral to the frescoes within, you are sure to be impressed by its grandeur.
