Labor Day Tippling in the Bay Area

2 September 2010 No Comment

Labor Day, the unoficial end of the summer, is almost here. If you’re heading up to Tahoe, we’ve got a list of restaurants to check out right here. However, if you’re looking to do a little boozing of the grape variety, try one of these great wine events.

Endless Sonoma

The 18th annual “Sonoma Wine Country Weekend” tends toward fun and frivolity, and this year’s weekend-long festivities will be no different. The  surf-themed event features an intoxicating array of winemaker lunches, dinners with vintner mavericks, Iron Chef–style cooking competitions, the “Taste of Sonoma” walk-around featuring 60 local chefs, rare wine-tasting tours, online auctions on Saturday and, of course, the bit Saturday night auction benefiting local nonprofits. Admission ranges from $85 per person to $500. For a list of all the weekend’s activities (which are selling out quickly), click here.

Feel More in Livermore

Meanwhile, across the bridge, another regional wine-making region, Livermore County, will be hosting its ninth annual Harvest Wine Celebration. The event features day-long celebrations at over 40 different wineries – including Wente, Concannon, Murietta’s Well and others – and you can expect special tastings, live music, complimentary vino-friendly nibbles and art vendors. Cost is $40–$65, and there’s a $10-discounted ticket for designated drivers. To purchase, click here or call 925-447-9463.
